Hala Abdel Malak is a design critic, curator, educator, researcher and strategist. Born in Beirut during the civil war, she grew up, worked, and studied internationally before grounding in New York.

She is the Director of the Strategic Design and Management BBA at Parsons School of Design and is also part of Design and Flow, a strategic design collective that facilitates actionable change and encourages shared responsibility.


With a passion for social change, cultural identity exploration and the power of ideas through design, her work has been featured in Print Magazine, Design Indaba, Metropolis, AIGA, Beirut Design Week, NYC x Design, Wanted Design NYC, Smithsonian Media, MOMA and SXSW, where she was awarded the Learn by Design award for her work on refugee education.

In this third episode, Andrea and Hala discuss actionable change in a post-pandemic world, understanding the relationship of systems and opportunities to create impact, build resilient systems and influence behavioral change with human centered design.
